Live Audio 101 & 102

An introduction to the essential concepts and practices of effective live audio and sound reinforcement, including the science of sound and audio electronics, system components, repair and maintenance, troubleshooting and mixing live bands in a digital environment. Live Audio 101 & 102 are 12-week, five-hour courses intended to equip students to operate and manage audio systems in medium to large-sized venues with an emphasis on facilitating concerts and other live events. Live Audio 101 will serve as a prerequisite for 102 and together they will serve as prerequisites for all advanced Audio classes. Includes weekly 1 and 1/2 hr Lab.

Prerequisite: Live Audio 101 is the prerequisite for Live Audio 102.

Live Audio 101 ONLINE

An introduction to the essential concepts and practices of effective live audio and sound reinforcement, including the science of sound and audio electronics, system components, repair and maintenance, troubleshooting and mixing live bands in a digital environment. Live Audio 101 ONLINE is a 12-week course intended to equip students to operate and manage audio systems in medium to large-sized venues with an emphasis on facilitating concerts and other live events. This is a 12-week online class that includes weekly assigned reading from the textbook, weekly online lectures via video on our student portal, weekly quizzes based on the lecture material, and a cumulative final at the end of the semester. Topics include System Overview, The Science of Sound, Electronics, Primary Components, Secondary Components, Mixing Consoles, Signal Flow, Musical Considerations, Listening Skills, Repair & Maintenance, and more. 

Live Audio 201

An in-depth look at advanced concepts and practices for producing professional results when mixing various forms of contemporary music in live environments, with an emphasis on techniques for equalization and compression utilizing the latest plug-ins and other solutions. Special attention will be given to effective treatment of rhythm sections and vocals. This is a six-week, 3 hour intensive course that will include several guest instructors who are leaders in the audio industry. Requires weekly Lab and/or outside research and coursework.

Prerequisite: Live Audio 101 & 102

Pro Tools 101

An introductory Pro Tools course taught by fully certified instructors intended to prepare students to produce professional audio recordings in a commercial studio or home studio setting. These two 6-week courses will cover all the material necessary for students to pass the Pro Tools 101 test to become certified by Pro Tools. Requires weekly Lab and outside research and coursework. 

Prerequisite: none

Pro Tools 110

An advanced Pro Tools course taught by fully certified instructors intended to prepare students to produce professional audio recordings in a commercial studio or home studio setting. These two 6-week courseswill cover all the material necessary for students to pass the Pro Tools 110 test to become certified by Pro Tools. Requires weekly Lab and outside research and coursework.
